Elijah has become a sound, and also John seems to be getting drowned out as a voice who calls.

But they are images that can lose their glow and regain it; they are not destroyed, just faded. They seem dead, but suddenly they appear alive and present… as that of which they are the bearers, lets its timeless reality become an experience in us.

Not for the simple Word of Malachi: “See, I send My Messenger before My face, who will prepare the way for you, does this expectation live, as a firm even if unprovable knowing in the hearts of all people, either in this expression or in a wordless feeling.

Elijah, the Messenger visiting the widow in Zarphat
